Abstract

Skins, hairs, and the like are dyed by treating the material, mordanted or not, in the presence of an oxidizing-agent in a bath containing 5-nitro-2-amino-1-oxybenzene or derivative thereof having one or more substituents in the nucleus. In an example the skin is washed with sodium carbonate and dyed in a bath containing 5-nitro-2-amino-1-oxybenzene, ammonia and hydrogen peroxide, a yellow tint being produced; on iron mordants yellow tints, and on chromium or copper mordants brown tints, are obtained.
