Constant speed control systems.-The speed of a motor 2 is maintained constant by automatically including in and excluding from a field winding 4 a resistance 7 under the control of a vibrating regulator 9 acting through a relay 17, one winding 12 of the vibratory regulator being connected across a resistance in the exciter circuit, and the other winding 13 being energized by a small generator 15 mechanically coupled to the motor. Different speed settings, without interference with the adjustments of the regulator, are obtained by a variable resistance 23 in circuit with the generator 15 and the coil 13, and a variable resistance 6 in a branch of the exciter circuit. The branch circuit may, as shown, contain an additional field winding 3, or the additional winding may be dispensed with. A common operating- member 24 preferably unites the two variable resistances, so that they vary in proportion.
