Abstract

176,896. Vickery, F. W. Dec. 16, 1920. Calendering and pressing.-In doctors for calenders and other rolls, a doctor blade 5 is so supported by a carrier that it has a free fit and is capable of moving in any direction to keep its edge in contact with the roll 6. It is mounted by bolts 4a and nuts 4 on spring fingers 1 screwed to a bar 2 and provided or not with stiffening-strips 7. A pin 10, Fig. 3, on one of the fingers 1 engaging a recess 11 in the doctor blade 5 may limit the movement of the blade. The spaces between the fingers 1 may be closed by strips 14 of sheet metal or other material the ends of which fit over the stiffening strips 7, strips 15 being riveted on the strips 14 to act as clips. The fingers 1 and doctor blades 5 may be in one piece. As shown in Fig. 10, the arrangement comprises a slot 18 in the carriage 2a in which is fitted a blade 5 adjustable to the roll 6 by a row of screws 19.
