Abstract
415,482. Beating or scutching fibrebearing leaves &c. BELL, W. T., and PERRY, F. B., Globe Works, Lincoln. March 2, 1933, No. 6355. [Class 120 (i).] In a beating or scutching machine for obtaining fibre from fibre-bearing leaves and stems and of the class in which a wheel 1, Fig. 3, with beating blades 2 is rotated in close proximity to a smooth bar or leaf rest 3, the leaf or stem being introduced in an endwise direction by hand between the blades 2 and the rest 3, a plate or plates 5 extending the width of the blades 2 is arranged between the blades and the casing 4 in addition to and at a little distance from the leaf rest 3, the plate or plates 5 being arranged approximately tangential to the circle of the blades 2 and so that the forward end tends to press towards the blades. The plate 5 is mounted on a pair of bell-crank levers 8 and is hinged at 6 to the frame 7, the forward edge of the plate being urged towards the blades 2 by a spring 10. The top edge of the plate 5 is extended above the pivot point and arranged to contact with the hinge 6 so as to act as a stop and to limit the approach of the free end of the plate towards the blades 2. Alternatively, an adjustable stop 11, 12, Fig. 4, may be provided.
