Abstract
174,301. Higgins, G. April 19, 1921. Open fire-places ; dampers; outlets to chimneys. - An appliance for causing the draught to circulate immediately above the fire in open fire-plaees comprises a frame having side members a, the lower ends of which rest on the hobs at the sides of the fire-space, and a top cross-member b which rests against the inner face of the arch. Louver plates c are retained in grooves d in the lower parts of the side members a, a plate f and a hinged register door g closing the space above these plates. The door g, when open, diminishes the draught between the plates c and so retards combustion. An inclined plate m, resting on top of the frame sides a, directs falling soot &c. on to the sloping brickwork l, whence it slides to the rear of the fire under the bottom plate c.
