Combined open fireplaces and cooking stoves; flue-dust, removing; boilers, arrangement of.-In a combination back-to-back open fireplace and range having a flue 4 and a passage 7, leading from the fireplace to the top and bottom oven flues respectively, the flue 4 is controlled by a damper 12 at the fireplace end of the flue and the passage 7 by a damper 9 at the fireplace end of the bottom flue; baffles are arranged in the top, bottom, and side oven flues to ensure circulation of the gases to all parts. In the stove shown, the flue 4 is inclined and the damper 12 is hinged. The damper 9 is formed by a vertical plate sliding between guides 10. Both dampers may be operable from the same side or both sides of the stove. Baffles 16, 17 are provided in the oven bottom and side flues, together with baffles 15 and a deflecting-plate 18 in the top flue, from which flue the gases pass to passages 14 converging to a central flue 14<a>. A single brick 20a, in the top of which a channel 20b is formed, supports the boiler 20. Beneath the grate and ashpan a removable hot closet 22 is provided. To facilitate cleaning of the flues, the oven 3 is withdrawable from the front and an opening 24 is provided in front of the bottom flue towards which the flue-dust is directed by inclined plates 25 at the bottom of the side flues and by a sloping portion 26 of the floor of the bottom flue.
