Abstract
169,326. Field, E. D. July 14, 1920. Draught and push bars.-An adjustable reversible handle for perambulators, folding baby carriages, invalid carriages, &c. comprises a U- shaped bar having the ends of each arm a, Figs. 1 and 4, slotted at c to engage pivots d on the ends of a central transverse bar e secured to the body or undercarriage of the perambulator &c., the handle being held in various positions by the engagement of a stop m on each arm a with one of a series of notches l on a quadrant k. The stops w are held in engagement with the quadrants by springs p, the engagement being released by a pull on the handle-bar. The ends of the quadrants k are turned up at j and secured to the ends of bars g, which are secured centrally to the ends of the transverse bar e. As shown in Fig. 4, the bar e is secured to the frame of a perambulator &c. by means of a plate w and bolts u, u<1>. In the modification shown in Fig. 5, notches l<1> are formed on the inside of the quadrant k<1>, and the arm a<1> of the handle-bar is provided with a spring- controlled telescopic end y so that the stop on the arm a<1> is released from engagement with the quadrant by pressure on the handle-bar. Movement of the member y is limited by a set-screw 1 carried by the member y and engaging a slot z in the arm a'. In a further modification shown in Fig. 6, the stop is carried by a block 4, which slides downwardly in the arm 5 of the handlebar against the action of a spring 11. The stop projects through a slot in the arm 5, and the block 4 carries a rod 6 which bears against a cam mounted on the end of a handle 7 which is hinged at 15 to the arm 5. A link 8 pivoted at one end 9 to the arm 5 has a pin-and-slot connection at its other end with the handle 7. The stop is released from engagement with the quadrant by lifting the handle 7. The arms of the reversible handle may be jointed for folding.
