Abstract
166,534. Ram, G. H. E. de. July 13, 1920, [Convention date]. Axle distance members. - The axle is connected to the chassis by a rectangular frame of which the axle forms one side, and the side parallel thereto is pivotally mounted in transverse bearings on the chassis, the frame being also articulated on an axis substantially in the line of. one of its diagonals, so that lateral movement of the axle is prevented but substantially independent movement of each wheel over road irregularities is permitted without torsion of the members of the frame. As shown in Fig. 1, an arm 26 and a yoke 27 are rigidly fixed to the axle 23 and are respectively pivoted on the axis a, b to a yoke 31 and arm 28 rigidly carried by a shaft 29 mounted in bearings in the chassis. In a modification, the yoke 31 and shaft 29 are dispensed with, the arm 26 being connected to the chassis by a ball-and-socket joint and the arm 28 hinged to the chassis on a transverse axis. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) also comprises the rear-axle guiding arrangement shown in Fig. 10 (Cancelled). The axle 34 is connected by universal joints 37 at each end to arms 35 carried by a shaft 39 which is mounted in bearings on the chassis and is controlled by a dashpot 43. The joint 37 at one end of the axle is given slight lateral play. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
