Abstract

164,760. Hamilton, B. T. June 13, 1917. Mountings for use on aircraft. - Relates to mountings having means for neutralizing the recoil by the rearward discharge of a dummy projectile, and consists in providing an arm on the gun which coacts with a camsurface on the fixed vertical pivot of the mount so as to limit the elevation or depressiun of the gun in training-zones where firing would endanger adjacent structures. A non-recoil gun B of the Davis type suitable for mounting on aircraft is shown supported on trunnions A' in a bracket A movable about a fixed vertical pivot C. The upper portion of this pivot carries a cam-surface D which extends throughout the danger zone of training and with which engages an arm E depending from the gun. The cam-surface may be in two parts separated by a diametral slot through which the arm E may be passed to change from elevation control to depression control. The fixed plate F relatively to which the bracket A is trained is provided with stops or recesses coacting with a removable catch G and corresponding in position to the extremities of the cam-surface.
