Abstract

164,209. Paterson, T. April 21, 1920. Knitted fabrics; knitting, methods of.-Scarves, ties, &c. are made by hand on a work frame consisting of a board 1 having two rows of projecting pegs 2 with enlarged heads 2a situated along a centre slot 3. The yarn 4 is passed around alternate pegs in a zig-zag manner so that consecutive courses cross and overlap as shown. After one or more courses of yarn have been laid, the yarn may be passed round an end peg 5 to secure it, and the loops of the lowest course are then thrown over the heads 2<a> by means of a suitable tool, after which one or more courses are again laid and the operation is repeated. Fringes may be made by laying in loose yarns 6b as shown. The end of the article may be finished off by knotting the last course of loops on to separate tassel pieces or fringes. Fig. 5 is a fragmentary view of the completed fabric.
