Abstract

Combing-machines.-In a combing-machine of the Nasmith-Heilmann type the nippers, topcomb and feed-roller of each head are mounted in an oscillating frame depending from a shaft arranged above the cylinder and detaching-rollers and are operated by fixed cams or stops as the frame is oscillated. The arrangement is such that any head can be removed and replaced without disturbing the other heads. The frame D comprises side plates d, a transverse guide plate d<1> for the sliver, and the nipper plate G. It is hung from a shaft E carried in adjustable bearings mounted on frame pillars, and is oscillated by a cam M on the comb shaft a, a lever m, and connecting-link m<1>. The nipper jaw F is pivoted at f in the frame and is opened against the action of a spring by an arm f<1> engaging' a fixed cam surface N. The top comb H is mounted on a spindle h<1> carried by the frame and is controlled by an arm h engaging a cam-surface N<1>. The feed-roller K is carried by a pivoted arm k controlled by a spring k<1> and is ratchet driven. The pawl is carried by an arm mounted on the feed rolLer shaft and connected to a fixed pin by an arm hooked over the pin. The top comb may be controlled by a cam runway in front of the pivot. The arrangement may be applied to a device with a double head, the two combing-devices being mounted on opposite sides of a frame hung from a central pivot, and operated alternately as the frame is oscillated.
