Combing-machines.-In a Heilmann comber with multiple heads, in order to enable the width of the heads to be reduced, the upper feed-roller saddles C, Fig. 1, are provided with a slot H, the upper part J of the saddle, straddling the slot, forming a handle to lift the saddle, and the lower part K providing a connexion for the spring G. The narrower head enables the diameter of the detaching-roller to be reduced without sacrificing rigidity, and the top comb can therefore be placed further from the feed rollers. The lifter arms Q, Fig. 3, for the leather detaching-roller L and the corresponding arm U for the adjacent roller are connected bv a part T and operated by one extension P and cam O. The arms Q, U, are mounted on the shaft R by bosses one each side of the bearing standard S. In view of the rigid connexion between the arms, the bosses can be reduced in width. As the shaft R, which normally extends through two heads is operated in the centre and carries arms V, W one at each end, the torsion on the shaft is balanced.
