Abstract

209,429. Friederici, A. Jan. 6, 1923, [Convention date]. Shearing.-In pivoted-jaw shearing-machines, the jaw pivot is mounted so as to be freely movable in a vertical direction. The crossed jaws e, f, Fig. 1, are actuated by tension links operated by eccentrics at 180‹ on the driving shaft d. The lower jaw is supported by an adjustable stop i and the jaw-pivot is slidable in a vertical slot in the frame. The operation of the machine is such that the upper jaw first moves down to clamp the work, after which the lower jaw moves up to shear. The jaws may be swung through an angle so as to rest on a bar o inserted in the frame, a lifting eye being fitted in the upper jaw. The jaws may be open or crossed and may be actuated by cams engaging directly with the free ends, or by eccentrics operating through thrust rods. In one form of driving-mechanism, a single eccentric is employed, which actuates one jaw, the other jaw being linked to the shaft d, Fig. 3, and having a roller p running on a flat surface on the machine frame.
