Abstract
161,021. Cawthorne, A. Feb. 4, 1920. Couplings, non- automatic. - A device for coupling or uncoupling the chains on a railway wagon &c comprises a roc having a hook at one end and a handle at the other mcunted to swive herizontally in a swivel eye attached to a bracket at the end of the wagon, the swivel eye being employed alone or in conjunction with one or more slotted brackets which limit the travel of the rod. A bar 1 passes through a sleeve 7 and has each end bent, as shown, the end 2 forming a handle and the end 3 being formed into a hook 4 which can engage with the coupling link. The sleeve is pivoted to a bracket 5 to move in a horizontal plane, stops 14 limiting the longitudinal movement in the sleeve. In a modification, the sleeve 7 takes the form of a swivel eye and brackets on one or both sides of the swivel eye have horizontal slots to limit the movement of the rod 1.
