Abstract

Teeth, artificial. - Dentures, such as bridges, are secured to crowns or caps for natural stumps, or to clasps for natural teeth by means which allow movement during mastication but do not allow complete dislodgment. A plate 5 with a flange 6 slotted at 7 is permanently secured to a metal crown 1 or to a. toothclasp, and is engaged by the upturned portion 10 of a plate 8 secured to the denture. The part 10 is a loose sliding fit in the slot 7, but is prevented from withdrawal therefrom by the ears 11. The parts are assembled as shown in Fig. 3, and the plate 8 is then embedded in the rubber of the bridge or plate and vulcanized. The crown carrying the denture is then secured to the natural stump or root. Usually the bridge or plate is secured at each end in the manner described. Fig. 6 shows a denture 3 with artificial teeth 4 and secured to a clasp 12 for the natural tooth 2.
