Description

F. O. JAQUES, JR
BIFURCATED TOOTH CROWN Filed Dec. 7, 1927 INSZEIQTDH Jaw/Mme Patented May 14, 1929.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BIFURCATED TOOTH CROWN.
Application filed December 7, 1927.
My invention has reference to an improvement in the art of dentistry and more particularly to an improvement in tooth crowns whereby my improvement may be used as a tooth crown in natural dentures.
The object of my invention is to produce a tooth crown that may be made of porcelain or metal or a combination of porcelain and metal and to construct the same so that the tooth crown is more positively and permanently secured in place, than has heretofore been done.
My invention consists in the peculiar and novel construction of a bifurcated tooth crown having details of construction as will be more fully set forth hereinafter and claimed.
Figure 1 is a vertical labial view of my improved bifurcated tooth crown.
Figure 2 is a vertical edge view of my bifurcated tooth crown and showing more particularly the Y-shape of the crown.
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view of my bifurcated tooth crown and showing a 25 natural tooth shaped to fit between the bifurcated members of the crown, a part of the tooth root being broken away and a portion of the natural gum being shown in section. so In the drawing B indicates my improved bifurcated tooth crown, D a portion of a natural gum and E a natural tooth showing a portion of the root broken away.
All of the figures are enlarged to more clearly show my invention.
As shown in Figure 2 my improved bifurcated tooth crown I3 is deeply cleft forming a V-shaped notch 7 which extends towards the usual incisal edge 8 more than half the length of the tooth. By this construction the labial portion 9 of the tooth crown merges into and forms the labial branch 10, of the toothcrown and the lingual portion 11, merges into and forms the lingual branch 12, of the tooth crown.
Serial No. 238,389.
This
and lingual plates and 16, shaped, as
shown in Figure 1. When the crown is secured to a V shaped natural tooth usually by cement, the outstanding portions of the labial and lingual plates are burnished over and onto the tooth, as shown in dotted lines in Figures 4 and 6, thereby more firmly securing the crown to the tooth. In this construction the body of the crown is constructed preferably of porcelain and the labial and lingual plates may be formed of gold or platinum and cemented to the tooth.
It is evident that my improved tooth crown could be modified to meet various kinds or shapes of false or natural teeth, without departing from my invention, which is, a bifurcated or Y shaped denture which is used as a tooth crown the tooth being shaped to fit the crown.
Having thus described my invention I claim as new 1. A bifurcated tooth crown having branches formed of the labial and lingual parts of the tooth crown, for the purpose as described.
2. A bifurcated tooth crown having a V shaped notch the depth of which is greater than half the length of the crown and a thin V shaped element in the V shaped notch and fixed to the crown, said V shaped element having thin portions extending outward from the crown for the purpose as de scribed.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification.
