Vices.-In vices of the kind adjustably mounted by means of a hemispherical base such as a resting on a concave support e, the support is hollow and contains a rod k mounted on an eccentric sheave h fixed to a spindle g operated by a lever m to raise or lower the rod k so that a ball l, mounted on the end of the rod, is neleased from or pressed on to a seating d in an extension of a cavity b of the base a through which the rod k passes, whereby the vice may be adjusted and locked in adjusted position. A stop u mounted in a recess s<1> in the support e and pressed into the cavity b by a spring v may be withdrawn by a knob to allow adjustment of the vice, or released to locate the vice in horizontal position, the surface of the cavity then bearing against the stop u.
