Abstract

158,783. Smith, J. Dec. 24, 1919. Devulcanizing rubber. - Rubber is finely divided, impregnated with a cold solution of alkali (caustic carbonate, or bicarbonate) preferably concentrated, transferred to a closed vessel and treated to a temperature corresponding to a pressure of 100 lbs. per sq. in. The alkali and sulphur are washd out with cold water. The rubber may be further treated with hot water and hydrochloric acid. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 11159/99, [Class 43, Fastenings, Dress], 17313/04, 2655/05, 29878/12, and 28167/13.
