Abstract

Synthetic tanning-agents of the kind described in Specification 156,254 are converted into basic salts of chromium, aluminium or iron, which also are tanning-agents. According to an example, a mixture of naphthalene and phenol is sulphonated with sulphuric acid and condensed with formaldehyde solution, the product is converted successively into the calcium salt and the sodium salt; a solution of the sodium salt is mixed with a solution of two molecular parts of chromium chloride, and the basic salt prepared by adding soda. The products may be used in tanning, alone or mixed with other tanning-agents, by the usual methods. p The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) refers to the production in general of basic heavy metal salts of tanning agents made by coupling together organic compounds by atoms or atom groups. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.ALSO:Synthetic tanning-agents of the kind described in Specification 156,254 are converted into basic salts of aluminium, chromium or iron, which also are tanning-agents.
