Abstract

155,817. Herman, J. H. Dec. 20, 1919, [Convention date]. Bore-hole apparatus. - A percussion bit for deep well boring has two cutting edges c, d, the edge d being broader than and arranged above the edge c and a spring-pressed trigger h engages a side of the bore-hole to press the edge d against the opposite side. On reciprocating the bit, the edge c cuts out a central hole and the edge d enlarges the hole for the reception of the well casing. On raising the bit, the trigger is forced into its recess g on engaging the well casing, through which the bit can then pass. The trig. ger may have a re movable wearing face h<1>.
