Abstract

154,747. Cockburn, D., MacNicoll, D., and Cockburns, Ltd. Sept. 24, 1919. Stop-gear. - An emergency device which can be operated by hand, by a governor, by the failure of or drop of pressure in a forcedlubrication system, in the absence of an overflow of lubricant from a tank or of a surplus supply from a pump, comprises a double-beat valve 1 connected by levers 3, 4 to a piston 6 in a chamber 7 connected by a pipe 8 to the lubricating-system and provided with an overflow connexion 9. Normally, the piston 6 is raised, and the spring valves 11 therein closed, by fluid-pressure to keep the valve 1 open. Upon loss of pressure or absence of fluid, the valves 11 open and the piston is lowered by the action of a weight or spring 10. In a modification, in lieu of the valve 11, a by-pass controlled by a spring-actuated valve connects the cylinder ends.
