Abstract

1529793 Hydraulic valve gear BRITISH LEYLAND UK Ltd 6 Oct 1975 [31 Aug 1974] 38135/74 Heading F1B [Also in Division F2] A tappet 20 operated by a cam 18 is hydraulically coupled to an inlet valve tappet 22 by engine oil in ducts 21, 23 and displacement of the tappet 22 is controlled by a piston 25. The displacement of the piston 25 is limited by a rod 28 positioned by a cam 31 to provide variable displacement. The cam 31 may be angularly positioned in accordance with engine speed or load, e.g. in dependence on the position of a carburetter throttle valve to provide zero piston displacement at wide open throttle and maximum piston displacement at minimum throttle opening.
