Screw sockets.-A socket which is to be used for securing implements to handles, or for other purposes, is formed by rolling a sheet of metal or other material to form a tube, the lateral edges of the sheet being formed with half ribs which come together to form an external projection which prevents the socket from turning in its seat. As shown, a socket 2, Fig. 6, is fitted in a recess or seat 15 in a handle member 14. The socket 2 is formed by rolling a sheet-metal blank 8, Fig. 5, which is formed with channelled ribs 5, 6 and half ribs 12, 13. The blank is shaped by dies &c., into a cylinder, an internal thread 3 being formed at the same time, or by independent means. The ribs 12, 13 are abutted and interlocked or rigidly united to produce a rib or fin 7, Fig. 4. A flange 4 is also formed on the socket, and this abuts against a ferrule 17 on the handle 14. The ribs 5, 6, 7, on the socket are received in key-ways or slots 16 in the recess 15 and serve to prevent rotation of the socket 2, when an implement 18 is screwed therein. The ribs 5, 6 may be omitted and only the rib 7 employed to prevent rotation of the socket.
