Abstract
1524625 Laminated glass DEUTSCH<SP>E</SP> GOLD - UND SILBER - SCHEIDEANSTALT and F EVERS 9 April 1976 [16 April 1975] 14529/76 Heading B5N Bullet-proof sheet-form laminated glass comprises a sheet of silicate glass at least 6 mm. thick bonded to a sheet of polycarbonate at least 1.5 mm. thick by a (meth)acrylate resin cured between the sheets, the resin being derived from at least 50% by weight, based on the total weight of the resin, of 2-ethylhexyl methacrylate. The layer of silicate glass may a be laminate of several sheets of silicate glass. The bonding layer may be at least 0À1 mm. thick and may be produced by hardening a syrup consisting of, by weight (a) 50-80% 2-ethylhexyl methacrylate, 10-40% 2-ethylhexyl acrylate, 0-5% of other alkyl esters of acrylic and/or methacrylic acid, 0À1-3% of acrylic and/or methacrylic acid and optionally 5-30% 2-hydroxypropyl acrylate, at least some of the monomers being polymerized to such an extent that the final syrup has a viscosity at + 20 C. of 10-1000 cP, (b) 0À1-0À6% glycol dimercapto acetate, (c) 5-20% acetyl tributyl citrate and (d) 0À1-3% of at least one polyfunctional ester of methacrylic acid. Hardening may be effected at 15-35 C. The back of the polycarbonate sheet may be protected with a second sheet of silicate glass which is thinner than the sheet arranged on the opposite side of the polycarbonate sheet, or with a transparent, scratch-proof coating only a few microns thick which may be formed by vapour deposition of silicon monoxide or dioxide, other metal oxides or fluorides.
