Abstract

152,427. Slade, R. E. July 14, 1919. Wood, treating with liquids.-In colouring wood black or grey by means of a solution of iron and a solution of tannin, the wood is dried between the successive impregnations and is finally treated with ammonia or other alkali. Logwood extract may be used instead of or in addition to tannin to modify the colour. Impregnation may be effected with the aid of vacuum and pressure, and the process may be carried out in the cold or with the application of heat.
