Abstract

1524188 Crop shredders JOHN WILDER Ltd 28 Oct 1975 [28 Oct 1974] 46543/74 Heading A1F A flail-type crop shredder has a spreader comprising a pair of horizontal discs 41, rotating about vertical axes, to distribute the chopped crop evenly over the field. Straw or other crop, picked up by the rotating flails 12, is chopped between the flails 12 and fixed blades 13 and carried by the flails 12, via deflector blades 39, onto the spreader. The horizontal discs 41 are provided with upstanding blades 44 to ensure that as the choppings land on the discs they are given additional impetus so as to be spread evenly over the field. The discs 41 are rotated by hydraulic motors 43 operated either by a pump on the shredder or by the hydraulic system of a towing tractor. The discs and the motors are mounted by a bracket 45 from a rear bar 46 of the shredder. An adjustable depending deflector 48, mounted by a hinge 49 from a hood 50 of the shredder, may be provided to direct the chopped crop onto the discs in adverse weather conditions.
