Abstract
The calcium hypochlorite composition contains at least 0.3 part by weight of A and 1 part by weight of B and comprises a stable, safe, granular composition of calcium hypochlorite, which contains at least 55% of available chlorine, A representing a hydrated calcium hypochlorite which contains more than 50% of available chlorine and water of crystallisation in the form of Ca(OCl)2.3H2O in an amount corresponding to from 2 to 3 mol of water of crystallisation per mole of Ca(OCl)2, and B representing a non-hydrated calcium hypochlorite which contains 65% or more of available chlorine and less than 2% of water of crystallisation. As the composition is composed of a non-hydrated component which dissolves slowly in water, and a hydrated component which dissolves readily, the combined characteristics of the composition normally produce, with respect to dissolving, a well-balanced, extended sterilisation effect when it is employed in treatment with water.
