Abstract

1514864 Automatic voltage control INST ELEKTROSVARKI IM E O PATONA AKAD NAUK UKRAIN SSR 7 Oct 1976 41777/76 Heading G3R A transformer has a pair of control windings each of which may be energized through a respective amplifier. The output of the transformer is connected to an input of a voltage comparator having two outputs each connected to an input of a respective one of the control winding amplifiers. The amplifier inputs are connected in series opposition. As shown in Fig. 2, the output voltage of a transformer 1 is rectified 20 and compared in a circuit 4 with a predetermined value defined by a bridge arrangement 30 including avalanche diodes 33, 34. The error signal output provided by the bridge 30 is supplied to the serially-connected inputs of intermediate amplifiers 7, 14 connected to a D.C. supply voltage source 19. The amplifier inputs are protected from transients by anti-parallel diodes 36, 37, and each amplifier includes a resistor 52 providing positive feedback. According to the polarity of the error signal, one or other of the amplifiers 7, 14 is made conductive, so that a corresponding power amplifier 10 or 17 energizes a control winding 11 or 18 on the transformer 1 in order to regulate the transformer output voltage. The windings 11, 18 are wound on separate elements of the transformer, and only one of the windings is energized at any given time, so that the power required to control the transformer is minimized.
