Abstract

1508234 Fuel injection pumps ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 12 May 1975 [17 Oct 1974] 19803/75 Heading F1A In a fuel injection pump having a reciprocating piston 4 which rotates to distribute fuel pumped from a working chamber 6 through passages 15, 18 and a longitudinal groove 19, in turn, to a plurality of pressure conduits 20, during each suction stroke of the piston 4 a further longitudinal groove 29 is arranged to connect one of the pressure conduits 20 to the pump suction chamber 9. The groove 29 is arranged to substantially cancel out the radial forces on the piston during delivery. The connection to the suction chamber is established by way of a passage 29, the passage 15 and the working chamber 6, the latter being at this time connected to the suction chamber 9 through a bore 8 and which ever of a plurality of grooves 7 is registered therewith. An axially adjustable annular control valve 17 co-operates with a transverse spill bore 16 to control the quantity of fuel delivered.
