Abstract

1500619 Rotary positive-displacement fluid-machines TAR BRADLEY 10 March 1975 [11 March 1974] 9950/75 Heading F1F In a compression-ignition I.C. engine pivoted vanes, or "impellers," 9 on a rotor 2 are turned outwardly by a fixed cam 14 and fuel is injected at 16 into air compressed between the vanes and surfaces 8 on a stator 1, exhaust gases being ejected through ports 6 and fresh air being inducted through ports 7. The vanes may be furnished with pins 23 carrying rocker arms 12, which are actuated by the cam through followers 13, and may have replaceable cast-iron seals (19, 20, 21), Fig. 4 (not shown). Spring-loaded seals 57 may be provided at each end of the rotor. Air for cooling and combustion may be propelled through slots 37 in the stator by fan blades 32 on the rotor and forced through ducts 44 to the ports 7 by a blower 41, Fig. 5, on the output shaft 15, which may also drive fuel-injection pumps 46. The engine may be adapted for spark ignition or to operate as a motor or pump.
