Abstract

992,060. Rotary piston internal combustion engines. H. S. GILBERT. Feb. 2, 1962 [Nov. 2, 1960], No. 37715/60. Heading F1F. A rotary piston internal combustion engine comprises a rotor 2, having a pair of diametral rigid vanes 3, 4 fitted with sealing strips 5, 6 sealingly engaging a cylindrical casing I having induction ports 7, 9 fitted with fuel admission valves 15, 16 opening into expansion chambers 11, 12 fitted with sparking plugs 13, 14, and exhaust ports 8, 10. Rotary abutment members 19, 20 driven through gearing by the rotor 2 permit passage of the vanes 3, 4. Combustible gases sucked in or forced through the ports 7, 9 are ignited successively by the plugs 13, 14, the expanding gases acting on the vanes to rotate the rotor and expel gases from a previous cycle through ports 8, 10. The rotor and abutment members may be air or oil-cooled by means of longitudinal ports thereto. With air cooling a rotor driven fan may be fitted in a recess on each side of the rotor.
