Abstract

149,795. Villard, J. May 28, 1919. Saws and milling-cutters, sharpening. - A machine for sharpening milling-cutters, saws, &c. comprises a grinding-disk 7 rotating on a stationary axis and a carriage 13 adapted to be reciprocated along guides carried by the frame of the machine and inclined to the plane of the grinding- disk, the carriage having thereon a support 23 for the cutter &c. The carriage is moved by a lever 12 operated by a rotary cam 11, and the cutter &c. is moved on its axis, to space the teeth, by a blade 17 engaging the teeth and carried by a lever 16 pivoted on the carriage and moved at the end of each backwards stroke bv means of a cam-rise 20 mounted on the guides for the carriage. In order to regulate the depth of the cut made by the grinding-disk, the support 23 is adjusted on the carriage by means of a screw 14 mounted on the carriage; and to regulate the spacing of the teeth of the cutter &c., the cam-rise is adjusted by means of a screw 21. As applied to sharpening a reciprocating saw, the support 23 is replaced by a spring-pressed jaw adapted to hold the saw, and an adjustable guide for the back of the saw is mounted on the jaw.
