Abstract
235,228. Weimer, A. June 7, 1924, [Convention date]. Milling-machines.-In a machine for milling cams, the cutter is mounted on an arm which is given an oscillatory. movement corresponding to the movement of the roller-arm which is to engage the cam. The cutter 5 is mounted on a removable cover-plate 9 which agrees exactly with the length of the roller-arm and is pivoted about a driving-shaft 13. The coverplate is oscillated by a link 12 connected to a rack 15 reciprocated by a toothed sector on a shaft 18 having a second sector 19 engaging a rack 20, the latter being actuated by a block 21 sliding in an inclined guide 22 mounted on a table 24 reciprocated by a screw driven through change-gearing 25. The inclination of the guide 22 is adjustable. The work 1 is carried by a spindle, 6 rotated through change-gearing 25a from a common pulley 28, the spindle being rotatable through 90‹ for milling face-cams and the drive then taking place through a shaft 27 instead of the shaft 26. The axis of rotation of the work is adjustable relatively to the axis of oscillation of the cutter through known means for adjusting the work-spindle carriage vertically and horizontally, and setting is provided by a plate 10, Fig. 4, embracing the cutter-pivot 13 and the work-spindle 6 and attached to the carriage at 11. The cutter is driven from the shaft 13 through change-gears mounted on adjustable plates.
