Abstract

1491602 Heat-welded laminate including parallel thread layer CARL FREUDENBERG 14 March 1975 [22 May 1974] 10798/75 Heading B5N A laminate comprises outer thermoplastic layers sandwiching one or more arrays of parallel threads extending longitudinally and/or transversely, the outer layers being heat-welded together at discrete locations between individual threads so that the geometry of the array(s) is maintained but the threads are individually movable in their longitudinal direction. An assembly of alternating thread arrays and thermoplastic layers may be provided, in which more than one thermoplastic layer may be present between thread arrays. The outer layers are preferably non-woven staple or continuous fibre fleeces containing thermoplastic binder fibres and optionally heatshrinkable and/or crimped fibres, but may also be dressed woven textiles, randomly-interlaced continuous filament layers or waterproof foils. Exemplified fleeces comprise nylon fibre blends, polyester fibre blends and nylon bicomponent fibres. The threads may be textile, e.g. viscose, polyester, mineral and/or metal, e.g. braided copper, and may vary in thickness or spacing in an array. Specified uses are clothing parts and reinforcements, for which purpose the outer faces may be printed with polyamide adhesive, conveyer and driving belts, and electricallyheatable blankets, bandages and wall coverings.
