Abstract
1487328 Advancing yarn by hot fluid into stuffer box crimping chamber IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd (Fiber Industries Inc) 18 Nov 1974 [7 Dec 1973] 56773/73 Heading D1F A yarn crimper has an inlet yarn conduit, a further yarn-and-fluid conduit of larger internal diameter than the inlet conduit, and a stuffing chamber, there being a diffuser chamber defined by chamfers on the adjacent ends of the conduits, the end diameter of the further conduit chamfer being at least equal to 1.25 times the internal diameter of the further conduit, and at least two channels for hot fluid, equi-spaced about and inclined at an angle of 20‹ to 40‹ inclusive to the inlet conduit axis, the channels emerging into the chamber through the inlet conduit chamfer. A yarn, e.g. of polyamide material, to be crimped is entrained in conduit 1, Fig. 1, contacted by hot fluid in chamber 9 and advanced thereby through conduit 5, of larger diameter than conduit 1, and crimped by impacting a yarn wad in chamber 7. The fluid escapes through holes 23, and withdrawn yarn is cooled by cold fluid, e.g. air, flowing through passageway 29. Chamber 9, Fig. 2, is formed by chamfers on the ends of conduits 1 and 5, diameter 17 being at least equal to diameter 19 and at least equal to 1.25 times the conduit 5 diameter. At least two, e.g. four, hot fluid channels 13 are equi-spaced around the axis of conduit 1 and form angle 15 of 20‹ to 40‹, e.g. 30‹, with the axis. Chamber 7 has a hemispherical or conical end 21.
