Abstract
1484141 Floor hatch cover H NAKA 2 Sept 1974 38324/74 Heading E1G A floor hatch cover 101 has a top flange shaped to seat sealingly on a bell-mouth or other abutment face 20 at the upper end of a fixed outer framework 11, the cover itself being composed of four lengths of, say, aluminium interconnected by corner pieces to form an inner framework 30 enclosing and attached to a plate or other closure member 51. As shown the cover comprises a square ribbed plate 51 supporting mortar 102 and ceramic tiles 103, the plate 51 being embraced by lower and intermediate flanges on the framework 30, whose peripheral lengths have grooves 38, 39 for screw-attached corner pieces (not shown). The plate 51 has a two-part pivotal handle 60 (detailed in Figs. 17, 18, not shown). In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), omitting the mortar 102, the plate (51) is inverted, supports thin tiling, and is embraced by intermediate and upper flanges of the same framework (30). The outer framework 11 is also composed of four lengths of aluminium having grooves for screw-attached corner pieces and for anchorages 81-82. Pigs. 4-8 and 16 (not shown) illustrate modified frame sections, abutment faces, corner pieces and closure members. Fig. 10 shows a cover seating on a resilient seal 250 formed by a solid or hollow metal framed ring of rubber or plastics; the outer frame has corner pieces 230 and 231, while the inner frame has lower corner pieces 235 and upper corner pieces 233 which also support the closure plate 181. In Fig. 11 (not shown) the bottom flange of the cover frame has an annular projection (263) to deform a hollow sealing ring (262). Figs. 12-14 (not shown) illustrate variablesized covers each comprising a frame enclosing an assembly of side-by-side channels held together by resilient channels (Fig. 13) or screws (Fig. 14) to form a closure member which may be used either way up, depending on whether or not mortar and ceramic tiles are to be used. Fig. 15 (not shown) illustrates outer and inner frames provided with shields or cover strips (360, 370) of stainless steel and a resilient sealing ring (386) on the underside of the inner frame.
