Abstract

1481743 Sheet separating apparatus XEROX CORP 10 Sept 1974 [17 Sept 1973] 39487/74 Heading B8R In an apparatus wherein sheets are separated from the top of a pile 4 by a friction roller 56 co-operating with a retard member 58, the pile is supported on a plate 46 pivotally mounted on a support member 44, which support member is movable laterally of the feed direction between pile loading and sheet separating locations. On movement to the loading location a cam follower on the plate 46 co-operates with a cam 48 to cause pivoting of the plate away from the roller 56 against the bias of springs 99 thereby providing access for loading a fresh pile. On return of the support member to the separating position the plate is released so that springs 99 bring the pile into contact with the roller 56 and the support is latched into position for accurate registration of the pile by a roller on the support engaging a member 50. A switch (124, Fig. 1, not shown) is arranged to activate the apparatus only when the support is in the separating position.
