Abstract

1465592 Sheet separating apparatus XEROX CORP 17 Sept 1974 [1 Oct 1973] 40528/74 Heading B8R Sheets are separated from the top of a pile by a friction roller 51 which is rotated firstly in a direction to cause rearward movement of the top sheet and secondly in the opposite direction to feed the sheet from the pile. During rearward movement the top sheet is engaged by a pressing member 80 to cause the sheet to buckle as it is withdrawn from beneath corner separators 48. The member 80 is mounted on a spring lever 81 pivoted at 83 and connected to the feed roller drive shaft through a one-way clutch. When drive shaft rotates the feed roller in the first direction the clutch is engaged to pivot the lever about pivot 83 and press the member 80 onto the pile. When the drive shaft rotates the feed roller in the opposite direction no turning of the lever 81 occurs and the pressure on the pile is released.
