Abstract
1,262,444. Feeding sheets. XEROX CORP. 30 June, 1970 [3 July, 1969], No. 31605/70. Heading B8R. Registering.-Sheets are fed as required either from a feed tray 34, Fig. 1, between guides 86, 87, Fig. 4, or from a secondary feed tray 35 between guides 91, 92 and thence by feed rollers 96, 97 and between guides 93, 94, 95, to a registering device 22 and thence to the transfer station D of a xerographic reproducing apparatus 10, the guide 95 being movable to allow access to the feed path. The registering device comprises register stop rollers 60, Figs. 2 and 4, each having a stop face 67 and initially stationary, so that a sheet is fed against the faces 67 and continued to be fed so as to be held against the faces, the guides allowing buckling of the sheet. Pressure rollers 69 are then raised against the rollers 60 under the control of a cam 122, and a cam 120 causes the rollers 60 to rotate with an acceleration which feeds the sheet towards the station D. When maximum velocity is reached, pressure rollers 68 are raised under the control of a cam 122 against rollers 70 continuously driven at said velocity, so that the sheet is fed by both rollers 60 and 70. The rollers 69 are then lowered, leaving the sheet to be fed by the rollers 70 only, and the rollers 60 are slowed and stopped and then returned to their initial stop position ready for the next sheet.
