Abstract

1479860 Decoking conduits LION OIL CO 30 May 1975 [5 June 1974] 23649/75 Heading F2N A process for removing coke deposits from a conduit for carrying hydrocarbon vapour, such as the cyclone discharge nozzle of a fluid coking unit, uses a jet of water at a pressure in excess of 5000 p.s.i. whereby the coke is broken into pieces and expelled from the conduit. By using cold water the coke may be subjected to thermal shock to break it into pieces and the water jet may conveniently be at a pressure between 6000 and 7000 p.s.i. such as 6500 p.s.i., it may have a temperature of between 50‹ and 70‹ F. and have a flow rate of between 30 and 40 gallons per minute, such as 35 gallons per minute. Alternatively the jet may be at a pressure of 5500 p.s.i. and have a flow rate of 35 gallons per minute. The water jet may be produced using a lance for insertion into the conduit and having two small oppositely located rearwardly directed holes through which water jets issue.
