Abstract
578,263. Jet propulsion apparatus. ASIATIC PETROLEUM CO., Ltd., LUBBOCK, I., and GOLLIN, G. J. Nov. 7, 1941, No. 14405. [Class 114] In apparatus for effecting jet propulsion by the products of the combustion of a liquid fuel and a liquid oxidant in a combustion chamber, water or other liquid diluent is introduced into the combustion chamber so as to reduce the temperature of combustion. In the form shown, the fuel and oxidant are supplied to a combustion chamber 1 by a nozzle 4, and the water &c. is supplied at 8 to a cooling-coil 7 surrounding the expansion nozzle 6, and then by a pipe 9 to one or more jets 10. The nozzle 4 may be constructed and surrounded by a cooling-chamber 5, as described in Specification 578,293, [Group XXVII], and the water &c. supplied to the chamber 5 may also have access to the combustion chamber. The liquids may be supplied by the pressure of a propellant gas as described in Specification 578,262, and the combustion chamber 1 has a refractory lining 2 which may be subdivided into rings as described in- Specification 578,007, [Group XII]. The liquid diluent may be emulsified with the liquid fuel, the emulsified fuel being then used as the cooling-medium.
