Abstract

1471375 Syringe COMPAGNIE GENERALE DE RADIOLOGIE 25 April 1974 [27 April 1973] 18214/74 Heading B8C [Also in Division A5] A syringe in which injection fluid is stored prior to use, comprises a barrel 1 having a closed outlet end 20 which may be cut or broken open, a flange 3 and a piston 5 (Fig. 3) capable of receiving an operating rod 9, at the inlet end of the barrel, and a sealing arrangement fluid, tightly sealing the inlet end comprising an inner portion 10 surrounding the piston between the piston and the sidewall of the barrel and an outer flange portion facing and secured to the flange 3. The piston 5 may be held in the barrel by a removable or rupturable flat sealing member 11 secured to the outer flange portion of the sealing arrangement. The inner portion 10 of the sealing arrangement either may be formed to be ruptured by a pointed tip 7 of the piston 5 or formed integral with the piston 5 (Fig. 4, not shown). A line of weakness is provided near the seal with the flange 3. Alternatively, the sealing arrangement comprises an inner sleeve portion 60 (Fig. 5), disposed around and integral with a hollow piston portion 50, and an outer flange portion 5 attached to the barrel flange 3. A reduced thickness zone 52 between the outer flange portion 51 and piston portion 50 is rupturable. The operating rod 9 may be formed with an annular blade 92 to separate the piston and outer flange portions 50, 51. The outlet end 20 has interior threads for attachment of needles, valves or catheters.
