Abstract

1,249,740. Container closures. AMERICAN FLANGE & MFG. CO. Inc. 21 April, 1969 [6 May, 1968], No. 20227/69. Heading B8T. A tamperproof container closure assembly for a drum 1 provided with a synthetic plastics liner 4 comprises a plastics grommet 10 and a plastics insert 20 which has a puncturable sealing diaphragm 29 and an overlying snap cap 27, the closure assembly being interfitted by forcing the cylindrical body 11 of the grommet 10 up through an opening in the drum 1, with the liner 4 therebetween, and then guiding the insert 20 through the grommet bore 12 until the locking shoulder 22 snaps under section 14 of the grommet 10. An annular groove 16 in the grommet 10 permits the use of various liners since it renders the grommet 10 capable of absorbing, without loss of sealability, the differing radial pressures associated with variation in liner thickness.
