Abstract

1469519 Transfer printing of keratinous fibres PRECISION PROCESSES (TEXTILES) Ltd 23 Jan 1975 [25 Oct 1973] 49850/73 Addition to 1395881 Heading D1B Fabrics are printed by a dry transfer process which comprises:- a) providing keratinous fibres which have been subjected to an oxidative treatment b) causing a polyvalent metal compound to become associated with the fibres c) providing a support having printed thereona dyestuff which sublimes at 220‹C or below and capable of complexing with the polyvalent metal d) contacting fabric containing keratinous fibres from a) and b) with the support and heating the support to transfer the dye to the fabric and to form a complex with the polyvalent metal; wherein the keratinous fibres are treated before the fabric is transfer printed with at least one carrier or at least one polymer having a plurality of cationic ionizable sites or a mixture of such a carrier and polymer. The oxidative treatment is preferably with permonosulphuric acid and/or sodium dichloroisocyanurate. The preferred polyvalent metals are aluminium, cobalt, copper, manganese, nickel or zinc. Preferred carriers and polymers are N-alkyl-phthalimide derivatives, methyl naphthalenes, or butyl benzoate and polyvinyl imidazolines, polyvinyl pyridines and methylolated acrylamides. The fabric is preferably wool or wool blends with other fibres.
