Abstract
1323229 Inorganic fibres BAYER AG 2 Nov 1971 [6 Nov 1970] 50957/71 Heading C1J [Also in Division D1] Inorganic fibres are made by solution-dryspinning a fluid system containing fibre forming components and heating the fibre at 1-100‹ C./ min. to 500-1600‹ C. either in an inert or reducing atmosphere to form at least two phases with a miscibility gap, of which one phase is a metal oxide, mixture of oxides or solution of oxides in each other, the other phase being in disperse form with a crystallite size less than 1000 Š. The oxide phase is derived from a heat decomposable compound or mixtures thereof of Li Na, Be, Mg, B, Ti, Zv, Th, V, Cr, Fe, Al or Si The disperse phase is elemental B and/or C; or elemental Ti, V, Cr, Fe, Al or their carbides nitrides, borides or silicides; or the binary compounds between B, N, C and Si; used either directly or as a derivative from their heat decomposable compounds. The fluid system may contain from 0À001-5 wt. per cent of a dissolved linear-polymeric organic substance with degree of polymerization in excess of 10,000.
