Abstract

1468748 Electromagnetic filters KRAFT-' WERK UNION AG 10 April 1974 [13 April 1973] 16049/74 Heading B2J An electromagnetic filter comprises an upright cylindrical vessel 1 containing a filter bed of magnetisable spherical particles 2 supported on a perforated platform 4; a coil 3 for magnetising the particles 2; a pipe 6 which extends as shown into the filter bed so that, in operation, fluid to be cleaned from a supply line 8 passes by way of apertures 5 both upwardly and downwardly through the particles; outlets 9, 10 and pipes 11, 12, 14 for the removal of cleaned fluid from the vessel 1; and pipes 18, 16 associated as shown with the fluid supply and outlet pipes, and, with valves 17 and 19, arranged so that a scavenging liquid can be passed through the particles 2 to clean the filter. The coil 3 is normally d.c. energised, but may be supplied with a.c. to demagnetise the particles 2 prior to the scavenging operation.
