Abstract

1468028 Padding textile webs F G AUDAS 17 March 1975 [8 April 1974] 15449/74 Heading D1L In the padding of textile webs by passage of the web 46 around roller 40 immersed in padding liquid 38 followed by squeezing in nip rollers 42, the web is treated with a countercurrent of steam in chamber 26 prior to contact with the liquid so as to remove air from the web, access of air to the web subsequently being prevented by passage through a seal 32 comprising a pair of rectangular slabs 34 of plastics foam faced with P.T.F.E. The boxlike chamber 26 is disposed within insulated enclosure 10 to which steam is supplied via inlets 14, 16, condensate being discharged at 22. The inlet 60 to the chamber 26 has a protrusion 62 over which the web passes thereinto so as to minimise steam condensation and flow impedance.
