1,137,477. Textile treating apparatus. ARTOS Dr. ING. MEIER-WINDHORST, K.G. 31 Jan., 1966 [10 Feb., 1965], No. 4152/66. Heading D1L. A method of treating textile material in web form comprises passing a previously impregnated web through a heating zone prior to entry into a treatment chamber supplied with a predetermined steam-air mixture. The flow of steam-air mixture from the chamber being counter-current to the motion of the web. In a particular embodiment Fig. 1 (not shown), the heating zone comprises a chamber (13) through which the web passes in zig-zag fashion over guide rollers (15), steam being supplied directly onto the web by pipes (18). A sealing lock (14) is provided at the inlet to the heating zone and a throttle valve (19) is provided at the combined heating zone outlet and treatment chamber inlet. In this embodiment, the web is wound on a roller in the treatment chamber (10). A baffle plate (21) is provided at the steam inlet to the treatment chamber to prevent direct impingement on the web. In a further embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), the heating zone is in the form of a housing, to which steam is supplied, having a blast pipe for applying the steam to the web. The web passes through the treatment chamber in zig-zag fashion over guide rolls, a water seal being provided at the outlet of the chamber.
