Abstract
1464036 Polyamide/ionic olefin copolymer composition HOECHST AG 30 Aug 1974 [30 Aug 1973] 38099/74 Headings C3P and C3R A thermoplastic moulding composition comprises (A) an amorphous polyamide with 2ndorder transition temperature #100‹ C. and (B) an ionic copolymer of a monomer mixture comprising (a) an α-olefin and (b) a mono-, di-, or tri-valent metal salt of an α,#-unsaturated mono- or di-carboxylic acid, and optionally (c) an α,#-unsaturated monocarboxylic acid or (d) an ester thereof. The composition is free from polymers H-(-CR 5 R 7 -CR 6 R 8 -) n -H where R 5 , R 6 , R 7 , and R 8 are each H, alkyl, or halogen and n is an integer. By weight there may be 80-99À5% (A) and 0À5-20% (B). (A) may be a copolymer of a monomer mixture comprising: (α 1 ) bis - (aminomethyl) - cyclohexane or -bicycloheptane, or bis-(aminocyclohexyl)alkane; (α 2 ) C 4-20 aliphatic diamine; (# 1 ) carbo- or hetero-cyclic aromatic dicarboxylic acid or derivative; (# 2 ) C 6-20 aliphatic dicarboxylic acid; and/or (γ) C 2-20 aminocarboxylic acid or lactam. In (B), the metal may be Na, and preferably #10% of the carboxyl groups are in the salt form. The composition may be prepared by mixing granules of (A) and of (B), and extruding or injection-moulding, either directly or after metal-blending, extruding, and granulating.
