Abstract

1462243 Poppet valves MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURG-NURNBERG AG 14 March 1974 [17 March 1973] 11535/74 Heading F1B [Also in Division F2] A poppet valve, e.g. an I.C. engine exhaust valve, comprises a valve stem 1 and a valve head 3 releasably connected to each other by screws 6, the stem having at one end a portion whose diameter increases in a direction away from the stem and the valve head having a face to contact a seating of a valve port surrounding the valve and having a surface forming the axially outer end-face of the valve head. The valve head 3 consists of a valve face member 5 of high strength heat resistant material and a valve disc base 4 between which is formed an annular chamber 15 supplied with cooling fluid from a bore 33 by way of a tube 25, chamber 19 and radial duct 16, the coolant returning via bores 32, 12 and duct 31 to bore 34. The bores 33, 34 and the tube 25 may be omitted and the available cooling spaces partly filled with a liquid coolant. In Fig. 2 (not shown), the annular cooling chamber (38) is formed in a groove closed by a weldedin ring (41) and the valve seat consists of an applied annular element (37).
